Listening to Our Neighbors’ Stories
Investing in Our Neighbors’ Health
As health justice advocates in Appalachia, we are organizing across state lines to share health care stories and lived experiences of our neighbors with Medicaid coverage in the Appalachian region.
By elevating the stories of how Medicaid has positively impacted the health and health care needs of Appalachians, we can build regionwide support for defending and investing in the Medicaid program. Together, we envision an Appalachia where all our neighbors have the opportunity to live a healthy life and access affordable, quality health care, no matter their race, income, or zip code.
Who We Are
Kentucky Voices for Health has been a respected voice of consumer advocates and a catalyst in health policy decision-making since 2007. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and nonpartisan coalition, we bring together individuals, advocates, community organizations, state agencies, and policymakers to address the underlying causes of poor health by connecting Kentuckians with opportunities to make change through policy advocacy.
The Tennessee Health Care Campaign was founded in 1989 as a statewide, volunteer led non-profit, and that is still our structure today. Our vision has always been that ALL Tennesseans will have affordable, high quality, and equitable access to healthcare and our mission is to advocate for policies and programs that improve the health and wellbeing of Tennesseans.
UHCAN Ohio’s mission is to achieve high-quality, affordable health care for all Ohioans by promoting antiracism and ensuring that marginalized communities are heard. We are a large and diverse state-based organization addressing and influencing health policy issues through a stronger consumer voice built in a larger political, social and economic context.
West Virginians for Affordable Health Care brings a consumer voice to public policy so that every West Virginian has quality, affordable health care and the opportunity to lead an informed, healthy and productive life. We achieve our mission by working with partner organizations to identify and advocate for positive public policy initiatives, developing and coordinating innovative public education programs, and protecting and improving public health programs like Medicaid that serve West Virginians. We have a statewide network of consumers who help us identify issues and raise their voices for change. We work collaboratively with our state Department of Health and Human Resources to help consumers successfully navigate our health care system.
Community Catalyst is a national, non-profit consumer advocacy organization founded in 1998 with the belief that affordable, quality health care should be accessible to everyone. We work to ensure consumer interests are represented wherever important decisions about health and the health system are made: in communities, statehouses and on Capitol Hill.
