“My name is Danielle. I live in Athens, Ohio.
I have been enrolled in Medicaid for almost 20 years. I work part time in the service industry and my job does not provide health care coverage.
At the age of 22 when I was working at a doctor’s office, I needed back surgery, but I could not afford health coverage. If I was not able to enroll in Medicaid, I would not have been able to have the surgery and return to work. I would not have the quality of life I have today.
My monthly medications cost about $500 a month. I did not have Medicaid, I could not afford my medications. I would have to choose between having food or having medication. I know people who have to make those hard choices a lot.
Medicaid saves lives and it keeps people like me be able to work and contribute to my community.”
